What is the RPF Constable Age Limit?

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) conducts recruitment for Constable posts under the Ministry of Railways. Because this is a uniformed, armed force job, the physical and age standards are strictly enforced. The normal prescribed age limit for an RPF Constable is 18 to 25 years.

Special 3-Year COVID Relaxation (CEN 02/2024)

In a major relief to millions of aspirants, the Ministry of Railways granted a one-time special relaxation of 3 years in the upper age limit due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the recent notification (CEN No. RPF 02/2024), the age limit was temporarily revised from 18-25 years to 18-28 years for Unreserved and EWS candidates.

This 3-year extension is also added to the base limit for reserved categories, thereby pushing their maximum age limits even further.

Category-wise Age Limits (Including COVID Relaxation)

Below is the comprehensive age limit table that factors in the 3-year COVID relaxation alongside standard category relaxations:

CategoryAge Limit (with 3-Year Extension)Age Relaxation Rules
Unreserved (UR) / EWS18 to 28 YearsNo category relaxation
OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)18 to 31 Years3 Years category relaxation
SC / ST18 to 33 Years5 Years category relaxation

Are PwBD Candidates Eligible for RPF?

No. Unlike RRB Group D or NTPC posts where Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) receive significant age relaxations (up to 15 years), the RPF is an armed force. The official notification clearly states that PwBD candidates are not eligible to apply for RPF Constable or Sub-Inspector posts. Therefore, there are no age relaxation clauses for PwBD candidates in RPF recruitment.

Crucial Date for Age Calculation

Your age is not calculated based on the day you fill out the application form. Instead, the Railway Recruitment Board fixes a "Crucial Date". For the 2024 recruitment drive (CEN RPF 02/2024), the age is reckoned as of 01.07.2024 (1st July 2024). You must enter this date into our calculator to get an accurate result.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What is the maximum age limit for an RPF Constable for OBC candidates?

The normal maximum age limit for OBC candidates is 28 years (25 base + 3 relaxation). However, factoring in the special 3-year COVID relaxation provided in the 2024 recruitment, the maximum age limit for OBC (NCL) candidates became 31 years.

2. Will the 3-year COVID relaxation be applicable in future RPF recruitments?

The 3-year age relaxation was explicitly declared as a "one-time" measure due to the COVID-19 pandemic for the CEN RPF 02/2024 notification. Unless the Railway Ministry extends this, future recruitments will likely revert to the normal 18-25 years age limit.

3. Are Ex-Servicemen eligible for age relaxation in RPF?

Yes, Ex-Servicemen receive age relaxation to the extent of service rendered in the Armed Forces plus 3 years, provided they have put in more than 6 months of continuous service.

4. Can females apply for RPF Constable?

Yes, female candidates are highly encouraged to apply. Furthermore, widows, divorced women, and women judicially separated from their husbands (who have not remarried) receive special age relaxations (UR: 30 years, OBC: 33 years, SC/ST: 35 years - base normal age).
