The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is a premier Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), tasked with guarding 3,488 km of high-altitude Himalayan borders stretching from the Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Jachep La in Arunachal Pradesh.
Because ITBP jawans operate at heights between 9,000 to 18,750 feet under sub-zero conditions, their total compensation package includes substantial High Altitude, Hard Area (R1H1 / R2H2), and Ration Money Allowances (RMA) over and above standard 7th CPC central government pay.
