1. Coal India Salary Per Month

A Coal India employee's monthly salary depends heavily on their category—Executive or Non-Executive (Worker). Both categories offer some of the most lucrative pay structures among Maharatna PSUs, featuring strong basic pay, high Industrial Dearness Allowance (IDA), and robust retirement benefits.

  • Executive (E-1 to E-9): Starting in-hand salary for an E-1 grade officer (like a Management Trainee or Geologist) is approximately ₹80,000 to ₹90,000 per month. The gross monthly salary is much higher, but mandatory deductions like CMPF reduce the take-home amount.
  • Worker / Non-Executive (NCWA-XI): Starting gross salary for a Category-I worker (like a General Mazdoor) exceeds ₹43,000 per month, based on a minimum basic pay of ₹39,069 plus attendance bonus and allowances.

2. Executive Pay Scales (E-1 to E-9 Cadres)

Coal India executives are governed by standard PSU pay scales. In a recent structural alignment, the entry-level grade for new officers (Management Trainees) was confirmed as E-1, with a starting basic pay of ₹60,000.

These basic scales are just the foundation. The actual gross salary includes Industrial DA (currently 55.7% as of July 2026), Cafeteria Perks (up to 35% of basic), and location-based HRA. Below is the updated executive pay scale structure:

Executive GradeBasic Scale (2026)Estimated Monthly In-Hand Salary
E-1 (Management Trainee / Officer)₹60,000 – ₹1,80,000₹80,000 – ₹90,000

E-7 (Chief General Manager)₹1,50,000 – ₹3,00,000₹2,30,000 – ₹2,60,000
E-8 (Executive Director)₹1,50,000 – ₹3,00,000₹2,30,000 – ₹2,60,000
E-9 (Director / CMD)₹1,80,000 – ₹3,40,000₹2,80,000 – ₹3,10,000

3. Non-Executive Worker Salary (NCWA-XI)

Wages for non-executive employees and workers are governed by the National Coal Wage Agreement (NCWA-XI), negotiated through the Joint Bipartite Committee for the Coal Industry (JBCCI). The current agreement is effective until June 30, 2026.

  • General Mazdoor (Category-I): The starting basic pay is fixed at a minimum of ₹39,069.24 per month. Once Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA), attendance bonus (10% of basic), and special allowances are added, the gross salary easily exceeds ₹43,000.
  • Security Guard: Category-II or III guards in subsidiaries like WCL or MCL start with a gross pay of approximately ₹41,000.
  • Supervisors: Placed in Grade A or B, supervisors receive a starting basic pay of ₹47,802, leading to a much higher overall gross salary.

4. Coal India Salary Slip 2026 (Earnings & Deductions)

Employees can download their monthly salary statement via the CIL SAP HR portal using their employee ID and mobile OTP. A standard CIL salary slip is divided into Earnings and Deductions.

Earnings

  • Basic Pay: Based on the employee's grade/category.
  • Industrial DA (IDA): 55.7% of Basic (for executives as of Q3 2026).
  • Cafeteria Perks: Up to 35% of Basic Pay (transport, journals, etc.).
  • HRA: Based on the posting location (if quarters are not provided).
  • Attendance Bonus: 10% of basic (for NCWA-XI workers).

Deductions

  • CMPF (Coal Mines Provident Fund): Mandatory statutory deduction of 12% on (Basic + DA).
  • Income Tax (TDS): Deducted monthly based on chosen tax slab.
  • Professional Tax: State-level tax (typically ₹200).
  • Post-Retirement Medical Scheme: A flat premium for future health coverage.

5. Performance Related Pay (PRP)

In addition to the monthly salary slip, CIL executives receive an annual Performance Related Pay (PRP) bonus based on company profits and performance ratings.

The PRP is calculated using the formula: (0.5 × CIL Rating) + (0.3 × Subsidiary Rating) + (0.2 × Individual Rating) × Kitty Factor. Depending on the financial year's profit margins and the executive's individual rating (Excellent, Very Good, Good), the PRP payout can range from 10% to 50% of their annual basic pay.
