NIACL AO Age Eligibility Criteria 2026
The New India Assurance Company Limited (NIACL) conducts the Administrative Officer (AO) exam to recruit Generalists and Specialists across India. Before filling out the application, it is crucial to ensure that you meet the strict age eligibility criteria set by the organization.
The baseline age limits for the NIACL AO examination dictate that a candidate must be a minimum of 21 years old and must not have exceeded 30 years of age on the crucial cutoff date. This means a candidate must have been born not earlier than a specified date and not later than another specified date.
Category-Wise Age Relaxations in NIACL AO
To uphold social equity and follow governmental mandates, NIACL offers various upper age relaxations. Note that these relaxations apply only to the upper age limit; the minimum age strictly remains 21 years across all categories.
| Category | Age Relaxation | Maximum Age Allowed |
|---|---|---|
| General / EWS | None | 30 Years |
| Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) | +5 Years | 35 Years |
| Other Backward Classes (OBC - Non-Creamy Layer) | +3 Years | 33 Years |
| Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD - Gen/EWS) | +10 Years | 40 Years |
| PwBD + OBC (NCL) | +13 Years | 43 Years |
| PwBD + SC/ST | +15 Years | 45 Years |
| Existing Employees of PSGI Companies | +8 Years | 38 Years |
Rules for Combining Relaxations
Candidates seeking age relaxation must present the necessary certificates in original along with photocopies during the interview phase and at any subsequent stage of the recruitment process.
In cases where a candidate belongs to multiple categories eligible for age relaxation (e.g., an Ex-Serviceman who also belongs to the SC category), the age relaxations are stacked and added together up to the legally permissible limits set by the Government of India. For instance, an OBC Ex-Serviceman gets a total relaxation of 8 years (5 for military service + 3 for OBC).
Ex-Servicemen Age Guidelines
Ex-Servicemen, including Emergency Commissioned Officers (ECOs) and Short Service Commissioned Officers (SSCOs), who have rendered at least 5 years of military service, receive a blanket age relaxation of 5 years. This is applicable if they have been released on completion of their assignment, or on account of physical disability attributable to military service, or on invalidment.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. What is the maximum age limit for a General category candidate in NIACL AO?
The maximum age limit for an Unreserved (General) or EWS category candidate is 30 years.
2. I belong to the OBC Creamy Layer. Do I get age relaxation?
No. Only candidates belonging to the OBC Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) are eligible for the +3 years age relaxation. OBC Creamy Layer candidates are treated as General candidates.
3. How is age calculated if my birthday falls exactly on the crucial date?
Age limits are usually restrictive. The notification clearly lists a 'born not earlier than' and 'not later than' date. You must fall strictly between these two dates (inclusive of the bounds).
4. Do widows or divorced women get age relaxation in NIACL AO?
Historically, insurance and banking exams do provide a 9-year relaxation (up to 39/40 years) for widows, divorced women, and women legally separated from their husbands who are not remarried. Always check the specific year's official advertisement to confirm if this clause is active.
