What is the BITSAT Age Limit & Eligibility Criteria?
Unlike the NDA or UPSC exams, there is no specific minimum or maximum age limit to apply for BITSAT. Instead, BITS Pilani strictly dictates eligibility based exclusively on your Year of Passing the 12th Class examination.
To be eligible for BITSAT 2026, a candidate must be appearing for their 12th class examination in 2026 or must have passed it in the immediately preceding year (2025). If you passed your 12th board exams in 2024 or earlier, you are permanently ineligible to sit for BITSAT 2026, regardless of your actual age or percentage.
The Strict 75% Marks Criteria
Even if you meet the year-of-passing requirement, BITS Pilani imposes one of the strictest academic cutoffs among Indian engineering colleges. You must meet two independent percentage criteria simultaneously:
- Aggregate Rule: You must have obtained a minimum of 75% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM). If you are applying for B.Pharm, the criteria is 75% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB).
- Individual Subject Rule: You must also have obtained a minimum of 60% marks in each individual subject (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology).
Note: English proficiency and logical reasoning are tested in the BITSAT exam, but English marks are not calculated in this 75% aggregate eligibility rule.
Who Can Apply? (Category & Dropper Rules)
BITSAT is uniquely strict regarding improvement exams and gap years (droppers):
- First-Time Droppers: Students who took a one-year gap (e.g., passed 12th in 2025 and are taking BITSAT in 2026) are fully eligible.
- Second-Time Droppers: Double droppers (passed 12th in 2024 or earlier) are strictly NOT eligible for BITSAT 2026.
- Improvement Exams: If a candidate has taken improvement exams for 12th, they must appear for improvement in ALL subjects. BITS Pilani does not accept improvement marks if you only improved in 1 or 2 subjects. The entire 12th board must be repeated for the marks to be valid.
- Reservation: Unlike NITs and IITs which follow government reservation norms, BITS Pilani is a private institute and does not offer any category-based reservation (No SC/ST/OBC quota). Admissions are strictly based on the BITSAT merit score.
